I don't know if this will help anyone or not, but even after following all the steps in the tutorial, the brushes still didn't show up for me. It turns out that, when I added some brushes with Japanese names and Note Pad suggested I change the encoding from ANSI to Unicode so that it could save the Japanese characters, SAI doesn't like Unicode encoding, for whatever reason. So I clicked Save As... and changed the encoding (next to the save button) to ANSI for the .conf files and it worked again, then I renamed the Japanese files to have English names. Hope this helps!

I added several blotmaps, elemaps, and brushtextures at once. I put them all in their corresponding folders in SAI, then wrote the blotmaps in the Notepad. But nothing showed up for them? Am I supposed to add the others too, not just the blotmaps? When I open the dropdown menu, the only option is (simple circle). I've downloaded other brushes before, using just the files. I'm just all around confused and not sure what to do.

Say you download a brush pack (sorry if I'm being captain obvious on that one lol ^^;). After the download is done, you go to where you saved the downloaded file and open it and there should be a ~bitmap file~ at least. THAT'S what you put into the "blotmap" folder within the "PaintToolSAI" folder.

The "Scar" texture isn't a default texture like "Spread" and "Spread&Noise", so It would most likely be a downloaded texture instead like mentioned above. :P

There ARE downloadable brush presets here on DA though that are super cool and easy to download though, most of them are in painttoolsaibrushes.deviantart…

I've done all this, and the textures DO show up in the drop-down menu in Sai, however they have no effect. It's like I'm just drawing with a regular brush with no texture. You wouldn't happen to have any advice to fix this issue, would you?

It depends on the Density level next to the drop-down menu (I think, I never have the layout memorized lol but it should be there ^^;), from 0-100. 0 is the brush-like thing you mentioned while 100 is the texture itself. Anything in between is a mix of the two.

Thanks for the reply, whitefang!

But the texture itself isn't showing up in the brush at all. Like, it appears in the drop down menu, but when I select it and paint with the brush, no matter the density, it just paints like the default brush

I recently bought SAI because it wasn't working properly with my tablet on the demo. I can't find the file and it came with only a few textures, AKA canvas and paper. That's it, I don't know how to get around this or if there's something I can install.

This doesn't work for me. I've done it all, but when I right-click on the 'blotmap' folder, it doesn't say "Open with..." - so when I open WordPad or NotePad and try to open it that way, it just opens the file and shows nothing. So should I just make a new document, type everything down like you did above, and THEN save?

you can open your editor and drag the .conf file over to it :)

I've looked everywhere, but I don't have the brushform folder. I have everything else, just not that one. :( When I open up SAI, there are no options for my brushes, it just says  (simple circle). When I click the drop down arrow, nothing else shows up. There are lots of textures and brushes in the elemap, brushtex, and blotmap folders, I'm just having trouble getting them into SAI when I don't have the brushform folder.

Does anyone know how to help with this?

brushform is not a folder. It's a CONF file. It's labeled as "brushform" or "brushform.conf" if you have the file extensions visible.

The only default presets in PTS in the Blotmap folder are "Spread" and "Spread&Noise".

You'd have to download presets but luckily you can find them easily (not to mention really cool/pretty) in painttoolsaibrushes.deviantart…

That's weird.......Did you download PaintToolSAI from the main website or from somewhere else? :<

I'm asking because I've done both and I know that some websites other than the main one usually either have only some of what's supposed to be in the folder or nothing at all including the folder. >~>

That explains it then. Again, a lot of the time when you download from somewhere else there's always SOMETHING missing. In your case, it would be the things in the folder. ^^;

I'd recommend reinstalling PaintToolSAI from here, the original website and see if anything happens. ---> www.systemax.jp/en/sai/

(assuming you're using windows)
Go to your C: folder (under computer when you open windows explorer) and look for the PaintToolSai folder (depending on where you've installed it you may need to look in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder for it). Hope that helped.
